But it was oddreally odd–and after shuffling in other keyboards, disconnecting everything else on the USB bus, I still had the problem.

I COULD login with the “Disability” point with mouse and click keyboard and once logged in could usually use the normal keyboard. When the physical keyboard became “disconnected” while I was using it I could go to a command window and find the keystrokes were not being seen there but I could open a notepad file and see it was getting the keystrokes. Bizarro world. After reading everything I could find and trying out solutions which had worked for others I finally tried the solution above.

So far all is well. This problem began just before the Anniversary Edition Windows 10 update came out, and much to my surprised remained after the update.

I suspect I could have solved this by reinstalling Windows, but with Office , Photoshop, and various other programs, many of which require a call to the company involved to try them to accept the reload without charge, the pain is just too great.

Thanks for this procedure. I hope the problem does not recurand I hope Microsoft tracks down and fixes whatver problem was at work.

Unfortunately after two days of working perfectly I could enter no characters at the sign-in screen using a USB keyboard. I did log in with the “disability” tap the letter with the mouse keyboard and once logged in by this means the normal USB keyboard workedso my problem was not solved and I have given up, having exhausted all leads.

I have three other computers running Windows 10, all on Anniversary Update, and none of them have this problem. I just ran into this problem today. After a few reboots and googling I stumbled on this thread.

Whils I was reading all this thread I tried the onscreen keyboard, and noticed the two Alt keys highlighted blue as if they were being pushed simultaneously. Tried clicking the left Alt, nothing. Clicked the right Alt key, bingo they both turned off. Then hit the first letter of my password, nothing.

Tried Caps Lock, hit the first letter – bingo, it worked. Then I tried the physical keyboard – the next two letters worked.

I hit backspace and nothing happened. So I clicked Caps Lock on the onscreen keyboard and then tried backspace on the physical keyboard and it worked. I was then able to enter my passwprd without a problem on the physical keyboard.

Been using for 10 minutes, no issues. The problem may be in the missed registry tree. In my case I have copied it from another win computer and problem is gone. Here it is save this in the text file with. I know this thread is pretty old, but my dad’s Dell XP machine had the same issue. Keyboard USB worked in Bios, but not responsive at all at the login screen. Mouse was powered USB , but didn’t work at login screen either. So I was reading this thread about the iprt. I guess what I am trying to get at, is if this happens to anyone that finds this thread, to let it sit at the login screen for 15 minutes and see if it helps.
