This is ideal book for a beginner who wants to start explore Adobe products, such as, Photoshop, Illustration, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc. It doesn’t give any deep details for you to become a pro just by reading this book, but it does give you the ideas of how their software work. Then, you can go on to the next level of computer design in the future. Moreover, this was made by people from the Adobe company, so you can be sure about how reliable this book is.

This book contains some information on all of the elements of the Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium software. Unfortunately, it does not contain enough information to really learn any of the software, specifically Illustrator and Photoshop. However, if you are looking for an overview of what is in CS5 software package, it would be worth purchasing.

That would take individual books for each program in suite. I’d recommend this for quick learning though. I started with CS2 and my first Classroom in a Book for that product. I’ve upgraded to CS5 and so am back for the upgrade book. This will lead you through several projects with seamless integration so you don’t feel overwhelmed. Once you have conquered the elemental steps you feel free to improvise and the book is a constant guide so you don’t feel lost in technology.

Very good series on Adobe products. Always my go to books after I read a For Dummies book on the subject. If you need something like they are doing – or parts of it there is a lot of info. If you are a complete novice to the Adobe line of programs, this is a decent introduction in that it explains how to get started, but don’t think you’re going to get into any kind of detailed lessons.

In the Flash chapter, the book introduces a function for text following, but it never explains how or why it should be used and all you end up with is an ugly project that means nothing in the end but at least you know how to create a fish with accompanying text. There are better books and lessons available on the internet than this book – I would suggest looking for those instead if you want in-depth lessons that eventually mean something in the end. I bought this book to get my feet wet with CS5 and it gave me what I needed.

It got me started with all the different CS5 programs. It got me started but you should know that it doesn’t cover every single feature in great detail. And the book is huge – twice the size of the classroom in a book, but this is not a reference. It’s a guide to teach you how to use the software and to get you started. I have the Photoshop Digital Classroom and several chapters were taken from there so it looks like they’ve taken a bunch of chapters from the different Digital Classroom books and put them together here.

If you want an introduction to the CS5 this is a good place to start. But if you want to know everything about every program you’ll want to buy the books that cover each program separately. From what I can tell The Creative Suite 5 design premium Digital Classroom is a few chapters lifted from the individual Digital classroom series put together, no program is really done in depth and the proof reading and error checking is rather poor, for example in page 3 of the book it refers to source files that do not even exist on the DVD!
